GRAPEVINE, Texasââ¬âWhen Fellowship Church staff members speak about making church relevant, people listen.
According to Baptist Press, the megachurch, which is led by Senior Pastor Ed Young, Jr., and serves 18,000 people every weekend, shares its methods for growth and outreach at its annual meeting called the Creative Church Conference, or "C3," for short.
Nearly 1,900 pastors attended this year's conference, which challenged them to develop a vision for their churches, to evangelize and to keep church relevant.
Young told conference goers that excellence requires creativity.
"Creativity is about change, it's not about style," he said. "The bigger you get, the more complex creativity gets."
Andy Stanley (son of Baptist minister Charles Stanley), senior pastor of North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Ga., told the gathering that making Christianity relevant is part of pursuing the Great Commission.
"For ministry to be relevant, it has to be helpful. Ask yourself, what is it people need to know?" Stanley said. "I've come to the conclusion that we must create environments the Holy Spirit can work in."
