COLD SPRING, Ky.ââ¬âThe Rev. Larry Davis' sermon Sunday was about God being with you no matter what difficulties you're undergoing.
Davis' church, the First Baptist Church of Cold Spring, is undergoing difficulties.
According to the Cincinnati Post, more than a half-million dollars in church money can't be accounted for. The church's treasurer, Darryl Neltner, reported the shortfall to Kentucky State Police.
In a letter Neltner sent to state police, records show that some of the church's money was withdrawn from ATMs at horse racetracks and via an online gambling account. Additionally, at least three checks drawn on church accounts and totaling more than $100,000 were made out to cash or to Davis.
Neltner notified authorities after a bank informed him of "unusual transactions" in a church bank account that the treasurer said was "controlled exclusively" by Davis.
Kentucky State Police and a Campbell County grand jury are investigating the matter. Subpoenas have been issued for church and bank records, as well as to Davis, Neltner and the head of the church's board of deacons.
Davis did not mention the investigation during the church's three Sunday services, and members there said there's no indication he might resign as a result.
