Ask individuals to share a discipleship testimony during church services. Watch for people in the congregation who are growing in their discipleship. Ask them to share from their heart what practicing discipleship is doing for their life and those they disciple. Click here for suggestions on how to coach a person who may be willing to share their testimony.
Develop a church-wide discipleship program. While many in your congregation may be lifelong Christians, it's possible many of them are immature in their faith. Implementing a discipleship program, in the long run, will yield much fruit within your congregation.
Here are some resources we've found on the Web:
- FAITH Discipleship. A three-level program for developing discipleship among adults and youth.
- Experiencing God: How to Live the Full Adventure of Knowing and Doing the Will of God. A book by Henry T. Blackaby and Claude V. King that focuses on knowing God through an intimate, personal relationship with a person.
- M.O.M and P.O.P.: A Process of Discipleship. Modeling discipleship based on five levels of Jesus' ministry.
- The Masterlife Discipleship Resources. Available through Lifeway, MasterLife helps people experience Christ by practicing specific spiritual disciplines, e.g. spending time with the Master, living in the Word, praying in faith, fellowshipping with believers, witnessing to the world, etc.
Encourage discipleship among church members through the practice of spiritual disciplines. Donald Whitney's book Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life outlines these disciplines and provides specific applications for each.
