HAGERSTOWN, Md. ââ¬â The pastor of a Crossroads Church said he is grateful to the owners of a 10-screen movie complex who allowed him to set up a satellite service in one of their theaters.
According to The Herald-Mail, the Rev. Chuck Frank said Tanya Ridenour, president and owner of Hagerstown Cinema 10, has been more than accommodating to the church, which has been using the theater location since Oct. 5.
"The Ridenours have unselfishly bent over backwards for us," Frank told the newspaper.
For her part, Ridenour said she someday would like to see all 10 theaters being used for church services.
"It's nice to see the building put to good use," she said.
Frank and fellow pastor the Rev. Greg Taylor conduct services first at a local school at 9:15 a.m. Sunday, then conduct a 10:30 a.m. service at the theater. Attendance is holding steady at about 150, he said. The theater has seating for about 450.
State-of-the-art sound, comfortable seating and plenty of parking make the theater location ideal for church, Frank said.
The church pays a rental fee at both locations. The impetus for the satellite church came via increased attendance and increased giving at the school location, he said.
"Within just a few weeks, we've gone from a one-congregation church with 200 members to a church with two locations and 350 attending each Sunday," Frank said. "We've learned that if you want to reach the culture, you need to adapt to the culture."
