JEANETTE, Pa. ââ¬â Members of Victory Chapel were barred from their property by county zoning officials, who said the group doesn't have proper approval to worship on the site.
According to The Associated Press, the Westmoreland County Zoning Board voted 4-0 to bar members from the property, which is in a residential area, because of structural and health problems.
The city's health board ordered the church closed in January, but members were permitted to enter the building to make repairs. The recent ruling bars them entirely.
The building was approved for use as a women's shelter in 1999, but is no longer used for that purpose. Since then, and without approval, it has been used as a soup kitchen, a food bank a flea market and for other purposes.
Officials said they received complaints from neighbors about garbage, parking and other problems, the news service reported.
Deborah Jackson, Victory Chapel's attorney, said she will advise the group to find another location or make repairs. The group has not decided whether to appeal the decision, but Jackson said she advised them against such a move.
