WINDSOR, N.C. ââ¬â Seventeen churches of different denominations joined forces for the Bertie County Celebration, reaching more than 2,100 people, the Assemblies of God News Service reported.
Organizers said skeptics questioned whether that many denominations could work together.
"But God had different plans," said the Rev. Darrel Davis, an evangelist who spoke during the event.
The Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor of Merry Hill Baptist Church, said he would like to have had even more churches involved. He said he was, "impressed by the spirit of harmony displayed by the participating churches," and "felt that it was good that they could work together for a common cause."
About 20 people made new professions of faith and about 100 Christian youths made a public reaffirmation of their faith.
"It was a privilege to see so many people work together to reach their community with God's love," Davis said. "Best of all, the churches discovered that they could work together and make a difference in the community."
