BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ââ¬â Southeastern Bible College has agreed to sell its 10-acre campus for an undisclosed amount to Mountain Brook Community Church, according to the Birmingham News.
College President Don Hawkins confirmed the school had reached an agreement with the church, but declined to specify a purchase price. The church will relocate to the campus.
The college will move to the 22-acre site vacated by Valleydale Baptist Church in August 2004.
Hawkins told the newspaper the sale will be final around mid-December.
Earlier this year, Charlotte, N.C.-based Crescent Resources planned to build a 100,000-square-foot grocery-anchored shopping center, but scrapped the plan amid heavy opposition from neighbors.
"This is what we had so, so hoped for," said Dorothy Ziegler, one of those vehemently opposed to the property being used for commercial development. "We are just dancing in the streets over here. We are so thrilled."
Hawkins said the church was one of several groups interested in buying the property.
"I am very happy that Mountain Brook Community Church will be occupying this property," Hawkins said. "That's very much in harmony with what our desires have been and still are. We are very compatible in our ministry outlook with Mountain Brook Community Church."
