WACO, Texas -- Months after being released from their Taliban imprisonment, missionaries Heather Mercer and Dayna Curry are sharing more than their stories in an effort to support war-torn Afghanistan.
The women have recorded a CD of songs they wrote while held captive from August to November 2001 with six other foreign aid workers from Shelter Now International. Profits from the sale of the "Prisoners of Hope" CD, to be released Aug. 20, benefit Hope Afghanistan, the nonprofit humanitarian aid foundation Mercer and Curry founded, according to the Waco, Texas, Tribune-Herald.
Mercer and Curry read Bible verses and sang songs to comfort themselves during their imprisonment, they said. Their book, "Prisoners of Hope: The Story of Our Captivity and Escape in Afghanistan," will be released June 11.
